Hi, just been diagnosed grade 3 Triple  Negative . Was told I was to get chemo, surgery then radiotherapy. Had meeting with consultant today and she basically said she was afraid chemo with my diabetes (tablet, well controlled)along with my other medical issues could kill me and she didn’t want that to happen. I said I really don’t want it to happen either! So heart scan next week and reassess the situation. My health problems are mobility, fibromyalgia and depression . No heart or bp problems. I just want to start my treatment! Anyone else came up against this?

  • I've tagged   though think she's diet only controlled.  Is it metformin you are on? .

  • Thanks

    Hi

Not sure if I can be much help but I will share what my experience was bearing in mind we all different in how we react .my story on profile if you want to read just click on my name

I’m type 2 diabetic diet and exercise controlled no concerns were expressed by my team prior to chemo . Bloods were well under control and were at 4.5 for previous 5/6 year .

during chemo sugars went up  to 8 I spoke to onco about it and was told it was the chemo and they advised my diabetic team at Gp to monitor .So don’t automatically put on meds

Gp nurse said as well as the chemo it is also the steroids changing eating habits etc . Added to which lack of exercise. Chemo was in 2019 ,I’ve just finished treatment and my sugars are stable at 7 also still diet and exercise controlled.
Maybe you need to involve onco and your diabetic team for a discussion so a you are able to make an informed decision. Hope others can come on and post their experience

    best wishes

  • Thanks so much for your reply. Plan is now changed, if heart scan ok they may do surgery first so if the tumour is reduced I can get a different type of Chemo then radiotherapy . I just want treatment to start as tumour is aggressive
