Hi I was just wondering if Tamoxifen can make you gain weight?
im going back to see my surgeon tomorrow so hopefully my results will be back from my lumpectomy and lymph node removal. I’ve been told I’ll be on a tablet for 10 years and I think it will be this.
Whats everyone’s experience with this and can you gain weight ? Also can you gain weight with radiotherapy? What are the side effects of this also
many thanks
Hi, I’ve been on Tamoxifen for about 8 weeks and I’ve put on a STONE! I think my general lack of exercise contributed but I definitely have a tummy now. I started back to swimming last week and hope that the weight will shift. I felt a bit short tempered but that could well be the whole situation and cold dark winter. Good luck with your results x
I started on Tamoxifen in Jan 2022 so I’ve been on it for 12 months. No weight gain for me (I maintained my usual diet and exercise regime so no changes made). I’m 48. Just an additional comment on Tamoxifen. I read all sorts of stories about people’s negative experiences and I was convinced it would be the same for me, but honestly, with the exception of a few pins and needles in my hands, I honestly haven’t noticed anything different. Whilst not negating other people’s experiences, I think it’s also important to put into context. Alas thousands of people will be prescribed this drug every year, but if you are one of those who’s life isn’t negatively impacted, you tend not to go back onto these blogs and say, actually I feel fine. Therefore there’s a bit of an imbalance as you only really see stories with negative experiences and therefore correlate that they are the only experiences. Just wanted to give a bit of hope out there that it’s not all bad!
Thank you so much !!!! I really really needed to hear this ! Xxx
Thk you, starting Tamoxifen in the morning after trying out Letrazole since 1st Oct 22 and not getting away with tht one well. Have the box leaflet ready to read. Want to take a balanced approach in my head. It helps to read an experience such as you have stated. Tough having Breast Cancer isn't it? Fingers crossed for those giving these meds a go. All the best to everyone having their various treatments.
I have had 6 weeks on Tamoxifen as a temporary measure while they bring on my menopause so I can move to Letrozole. I didn’t put any weight on - in fact I lost a pound the last week - BUT I really had to try to lose that pound. I had no other side effects except my eyes are sometimes a little sore and I get hot at night (but not dripping and not nearly as bad as during chemo). I’m now waiting to see what Letrozole does …
