Hi all

Had my first 3 mins of paclitaxol last thurs, before they had to unplug me from a massive allergic reaction to it.

Felt ok till yesterday. Now breathless, no energy and good old diarreah.

Is this normal? Could it have affected me this much in 3 mins?  Gone back to bed. Paracetamol seems to be helping, but any advice from you guys would be v welcome.

Kind regards

  • Hi  and a happy Christmas to you too

I'm sorry to read that you had a massive allergic reaction to paclitaxel yesterday. It must have been very scary. I too had paclitaxel but fortunately got on fine with it. I did see one lady have a reaction to it but she just went very red in the face. They stopped the drug but she was able to continue after they gave her a second dose of the steroids and antihistamines you have every time before the chemo.

My advice to you would be to ring the 24 hour contact number you've been given for your chemo unit and explain your symptoms to them. I hope everything's okay but it would be best to check with your medical team.

Do come back and let me know how you get on

  • Hi lachbrook, thanks for the advice. Feeling a lot better now. Think it was the drug hangover. Managed to have some semblance of xmas day.

    Take care x

  • If you had a huge reaction this would be normal. I reacted on my first one too. Felt absolutely exhausted from the allergy for a day or two too. Strangely didn’t happen after that, was just the first one that caused a lot of bother.

am glad that it settled down enough for you to enjoy some of Christmas and now the New Year xx
