Just feeling a bit sorry for myself as lot of people seem to do well after general anaesthetic but on evening I returned home I was kept awake by a dry cough. The BC nurse suggested this was due to tube they put in throat. However last night the cough broke and am coughing up gunk and my sinus is painful and swollen and nose is like a tap. V thirsty and eating okay but extremely tired. rang GP as just before Christmas and she is giving me a precautionary dose of antibiotics and signs to look out forSepsis. She told me there is a national shortage of antibiotics! She thinks it is viral ( must of been incubating it when I went in) but did mention it could be allergy?
anyone else have similar …never had GA before so no idea what I am allergic too…(apart from the pink stuff they scrub you down with after…had a few hives from that )
So sorry you are suffering after your operation.I remember the anaesthetist saying to me that I could have soreness in my throat from the tube they insert. Fortunately I was ok but imagine some patients must be affected. That’s good that you have antibiotics and fingers crossed your symptoms will improve. I thing GA can also make you low after an initial euphoria.
Sorry to hear you are feeling unwell after your op. I too had a cough after anaesthetic and was bringing up muck but it did only last about 3 or 4 days. I was told this could happen after anaesthetic together with a sore throat which I also had. I hope it settles for you soon, try to get plenty of rest and you will start to feel much better just knowing the op is behind you, I found it was such a relief it’s done. Take care x
Thank you Mibby….just going up to rest now as ssoooo tired!
Hi Evajean, Thank you yes expect to feel low as this will also be reflective time and have to wait till Jan 4 th for histology results. I had neoadjuvant chemo….
Hi LifeslikeThat, after my 2 ops I found I had a bit of a sore throat and cough too but the cough didn’t go much beyond a little bit chesty with gunk. I did find cough sweets and strepsils helped. I was more prepared with the second time round.
Hope all clears up quickly you for and wishing you the best in your journey.
Hugs from cuffcake x x x x x
Thank you cuffcake…really hope for improvement tomorrow….want to enjoy Christmas!
Hi there, Hope you start to feel better soon, That tube they put down your throat can cause a lot of irritation and that make mucus too. Should start to feel better in a few days. Drinking lots of liquids helps too. It could be your allergies on top of everything else. Glad your operation is done and pretty soon you will feel more like yourself. Just take it easy. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year too.
