Hi all, was diagnosed with DCIS after a random mammogram and had wide excision surgery last week.

I have been given appt to surgeon on 24th Jan, this is 6 weeks after my surgery. I was told I'd only have to wait 2/3 weeks to see him and find out if cancer and margins had been removed successfully, and then I'd be told whether i would need radiotherapy.

Is having to wait 6 weeks a good sign? Can i find out earlier if i needmore treatment? In a panic to be honest so any help gratefully received, manymany thanks x

  • In May 2015 age 51 I was recalled from my first rountine screening mammogram for 2 areas of calcification (10mm & 5mm).   I was diagnosed with intermediate DCIS in the 10mm area only.  The smaller area was benign.  I had a WLE in July and 15 sessions of radiotherapy in September.  11mm high grade DCIS was final diagnosis after surgery.

My BCN rang me with my surgery results a week after surgery but this was pre Covid in 2015.  I think Christmas will impact  results x

  • Hi Carol, thanks for replying. I presume i would have already been contacted if things were more drastic then? Hopefully xmas has just delayed any good news i hope to get Pray

  • Hi there,  I understand the waiting is awful snd yes the wait may be longer due to the holidays but 6 weeks seems way too long to wait.  Personally I would call as sometimes reports are waiting on the desk in a pile.  Hope all is well with the report.  Happy Holidays and  let’s hope we all have a healthy New Year.

  • Thanks Barbara, I will call tomorrow x

  • Hi, I had my lumpectomy on the 9th December. My results appointment was postponed from the 5th Jan to the 12th Jan.
BCN said that not all the results were in due to Christmas/New Year holidays.

I really hope this helps put your mind at ease. Sending you positive vibes for your results.

    xx

  • Thank you so much, you have put my mind at ease big time! It makes a lot of sense things will take longer over xmas and new year, and ith a few nhs strikes thrown in the mix too. Feel much better noPray and good luck and positivity for your results on 12th, only 5 days to wait Pray
