Hiya,
I am due to start Chemo in the next week or so - 3 sessions of EC and 3 sessions of Docetaxal.
Can any of you lovely ladies recommend any supplements, diet or ANYTHING I can start to take before, during and after to help keep me as fit and healthy as practicable during this tough period.
I have heard Vit D tablets are a good start, but any recommendations to try and get through this period, especially as it is Christmas and I have a bit of kick ass attitude at the moment.......... well for now anyway...
Thanks xxxx
Vitamin D - though if this is low they should have picked it up and told you already - mine was very low when I was diagnosed and I was advised to take it. The chemo nurses suggested a probiotic for gut health as the microbes take a pounding. Steroids can cause constipation and they can give you Lactulose but it might be worth sticking up on some tinned/dried prunes, dried apricots etc to help manage that naturally. Hope it goes well.
Please don’t take anything at all without checking with your team. Some supplements interact with some Chemo’s so make sure you check them out properly first. In total opposite advice from the previous poster (not saying they’re wrong at all just saying I was told different) I was told by the oncologist to not take any probiotics or live foods until a month after chemo minimum as they can cause issues while on chemo hence why I think you should check with your team. All the best x
Hello there, sort to hear that you are going on the chemo train. I don’t have any supplements to suggest as many can interfere with the drugs so best to check with oncologist and get recommendations. I guess old fashioned things like sleeping 8 hours, eating good healthy foods and no processed foods, getting some exercise and taking it easy and asking for help if you need it.
Happy holidays and hope you get through chemo pretty easily.
