Hi I've been having  chemo  since June for breast cancer I've now been deffered 9 times

I started EC 7th of October and after got sepsis Netropenic and a blood clot in arm where PICC LINE is neutrophils continue to drop so I cannot continue with treatments I still need 2 more before surgery how lo g can you keep waiting why are neutrophils so low ????

Has this happened to any one else

  • No this hasn’t happened to me but I am just so sad for you - is there another alternative they can give instead?  They seem to have a plan B or C for if their first course of action doesn’t go to plan. It might be worth asking what the implications are if they go straight to surgery and how it is different from Plan A.  I hope someone can share an experience with you.

  • I’m really sorry to hear this has happened to you. My sister had cancer also and this kept happening to hear, it’s really tough. Are you having filgastrim injections? X

  • Hi I had the injection after the first treatment  of E/C and when I was netropenic and in hospital but not since

  • Ok so, I was given 7 days of injections after each chemo (initially, I reduced them to 5 after a few cycles because of headaches) and this keeps your neutrophils and white blood cells up. Protocol is different across the trusts but here at Wycombe Hospital it is standard for all cancer patients as it’s cut admissions by so much and they feel it gives a better outcome. It could be worth discussing with your team? X
