Lumpectomy with flap

Hi!

Has anyone had a lumpectomy with a flap from the underarm/back moved into the area where the breast tissue was removed? How did it feel after the op?

I had mine done just over a week ago. The incision is healing well, but I have a really hard area at the top of my breast and moving to the underarm. I know it's still really swollen but I feel like I can't put my arm down as it feels like a balloon is under it!

Thanks x

  • Hi Toni,

Yes I had this done just over 6 weeks ago. It's still quite swollen and the scar is tight, but slowly improving.

One week is still really early days, but do get it checked out if it's that uncomfortable. Do you have a check up soon? Otherwise maybe phone the breast care nurses to see what they think.

    Hope it feels better soon!

  • Hi,

Thank you! That puts my mind at ease a little. It's really uncomfortable but I'm not sure how much is swelling and what it would feel like if it was fluid. Did you have drains?

I don't have a check up until the 15th Nov so I was just a little concerned. I will call the BCN this week if it isn't getting better.

    Thank you xx

  • Yes I had a drain for a week and a Pico negative pressure dressing for 2 weeks.

I wasn't sure how to tell the difference between tissue swelling and fluid either. I saw the surgeon last week and he stuck a needle in to see what happened - nothing came out so he said it must be swelling! (I don't think it's that easy to tell the difference...)

  • Thank you. I didn't have a drain or a dressing so I'm not sure! I'm seeing the practice  nurse tomorrow so I'll see what she thinks.

Thank you. I hope your recovery is going well? X

  • Hope it goes well tomorrow.

My recovery is taking longer than I expected, but it was quite a big operation in the end so I suppose that's why. I am back at work and starting to do my usual activities though, so getting there! I hope you feel more comfortable soon x
