Multi focal cancer

Two weeks ago I had a mastectomy for lobular cancer. Results were not as expected. Instead of the expected 2mm lump there were several different multi focal which had not been picked up in MRI Ultra sound or mammogram prior to surgery.

margins were clear and the 2 sentinel nodes removed were also clear.
I have now to have a CT scan to check for bone, liver and lung being affected.

suddenly very scarey but at least waiting time is to be 1 week and then another week for results.

  • Hi Greatjunesby

Welcome to the forum and sorry to her that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  Hopefully your CT Scan will be clear.

    Best wishes

  • It's a shock isn't it! Happened to me, main tumor 9cm but further 1.5cm found, classed as multifocal, didn't show on any scan or mammogram........

great news  there was no spread to your lymph nodes, hopefully your MRI etc will be clear, mine were.

The waiting is horrible but hopefully be quick by the sounds of it

Best wishes, & hope you are recovering well x

  • Thank you Kitty1 for your reply. Such a shock but as you say the waiting time is hopefully short and hoping for the best. Recovering well and doing the exercises s prescribed.

    Best wishes to you too.

  • What treatment are you on after your clear CT scan?

  • My CT scan was clear and I was offered a oncotype test which returned a score of 8 which meant no chemo.Huge relief. Next is 5 doses of radiation and Letrazole. Trying to retain a positive attitude to the drug after reading negative comments.

  • Yes try to stay positive - I have to remind myself of friends who are coping really well with Letrozole and fully engaging with work and family life - they aren’t sharing experiences as it’s working well if that makes sense.  First steps in the morning or after a long sit down being stiff seems to be the thing.  I’m scared too - both of Letrozole and Abemaciclib - and I guess we don’t know what good they are going - if there’s no recurrence would that happen anyway or was it because of the drugs?  But I’m going to throw everything I can at this disease. I agree it would help to see more positive comments/experiences but hopefully we might be the ones to share them.  Here’s hoping..,

  • Hi Greatjunesby

i hope you are recovering well after your mastectomy.

Like you I had multi site lobular cancer and had a mastectomy.

i have been taking Letrozole for 5 months now and am happy to say that I have not experienced any side effects so far, so fingers crossed that stays that way. I do have hot flushes but possibly more due to stopping the HRT!

hope this helps, I think labradorlover is right, people only tend to post the negative when they are struggling which is understandable.

  • Great news..... Sorry I didn't respond to your last message

I had 15 radiotherapy sessions, taking Anastrozole & abemaciclib

Letrazole similar to anastrozole, I had some stiff joints/aches & hot flushes at first but it settled after a few months

    Best wishes x

  • Guess I'll have to give it a fair trial and see how it pans out.

  • Yes I would agree, hopefully it will work out OK for you.

    Best wishes x
