Hi I had a mastectomy and immediate diep flap reconstruction 4 weeks ago, no node involvement. Oncologist wants me to have radiotherapy, has anybody had radiotherapy following reconstruction?
My worry is that it will distort my new breast which I am very happy with.

  • Hi, I notice your post hasn't had any replies yet as the site is quite busy, I don't have the experience to help you myself, but this response will bump you back to the first page and hopefully someone will be along to share their thoughts soon. Best wishes

  • I had a double mastectomy and PAP flap reconstruction (from thigh tissue) followed by 15 radiotherapy sessions. The side that was treated looks a little tanned and it’s slightly shrunk / sits a bit higher. My surgeon told me the full effects wouldn’t be seen until 3-4 months after radiotherapy was finished. She said I can have some fat grafting to address any aesthetic changes.

  • I had mastectomy and recon by DIEP. I didn't need any radiotherapy afterwards.... ask to see the plastic surgeon who did the DIEP about any possible distortion etc - they are able to do liposuction and refill to help the shape after recon so may be able to do same/similar if any problems after radiotherapy.XXXxxxx
