Hi Wave

I hope everyone is as well as possible

I had my last chemo ( weekly Paclitaxel ) on 21st September

I have decided  to go privately to have my mastectomy and WLE . I have just received a surgery date of 18th November

im very concerned that this time period is way too long , with everything I’ve read saying surgery should be done  by the 7/8 week after last chemo

How long have you all waited ? I’m so stressed

  • Hi Dollydimple,

I-had TNBC  and a mastectomy and Full Lymph node clearance.  My last chemo

ws 10 March 2021 and my surgery was  7 April 2021 so about a month after on NHS.  It was during covid so I think I was very lucky as not as many cancer diagnosis as no routine mammograms.

this won’t help you but maybe telephone the McMillan help line and speak with a nurse

    wishing you well

  • Hi

im glad you had it done so quickly , I hope you are recovering well

my original date was 7th November on nhs but surgeon cancelled it, now the NHS appointments are in to December which is why I am going private

  • I don’t think there is anything you can do just have to get the surgery as soon as you can.  I know your anxious about time etc but your body is still full of chemo it takes 6 months or so to get rid of it all and you will probably get radiotherapy after surgery too which will mop up any cancer around the site of surgery. I also took more chemo in tablet form for another 6 cycles which would target any cancer so this is just one part of what you will have.  Try not to worry and maybe ask if there are any short notice canciliins that your prepared to go in short notice, just a thought

    take care

  • Hey

Thanks so much , I got myself in a right old state , have calmed down a bit now and your reply makes a lot of sense

I will definitely ask about cancellations too

    hugs
