Hi
I had surgery 5 days ago
My scar is hurting , twitching ? And tight is this normal
Xx
I felt very sore afterwards, and had lots of shooting stabbing pains that came and went, seemingly with no rhyme or reason. It took a few weeks for things to really settle down, and I've been left with a numb patch in my armpit, and down the back of my arm. Given the rummaging around they have to do, some nerve damage seems almost inevitable. I did see someone say that it's very common, but often resolves itself, albeit very slowly. They said that nerve tissue regenerates at about 1mm per day. Mine never has at all though. I had my surgery in March and I still have the numb patches. I'm no expert, but I'd say that pain and twitching are probably good signs.
It is quite normal. I was told to take pain relief the first week even if it was not hurting so you have it in your system. It does make you panic and think something is wrong but it is just nerve damage. As long as your scar is not red, angry or hot I am sure it is fine. Just contact your breast nurse if at all worried. At times I felt mine would never look ok but 8 weeks on I am massaging the scar twice a day and moisturising. It is looking really good but even now I still get odd twinges of discomfort.
