All these decisions are so individualized.  I am on anastrazole but my situation was different as I had stage 1a invasive cancer left breast and DCIS in right so out on med .  I do recall my breast surgeon telling me in my first visit when we only thought I had DCIS that because my tumor was 100% estrogen and progesterone positive that he wanted me to go on anastrazole.

I had high grade DCIS.  I was told hormone therapy not required as it was not hormone receptive.  

I was also told no tamoxifen for me but because I’ve no breast tissue left but if I hadn’t had the risk reducing mastectomy in the other side they may have recommended it to reduce the risk of another cancer in the other breast  

Thanks all. It's interesting as just because you have DCIS in one breast, doesn't mean you'll get it in the other. I guess by having tamoxifen you potentially reduce your chances. 

I thought thry only gave hormone treatment if biopsy found tumour cells to be fed my hormones.  

Not sure Grogg.... My DCIS is ER, however having had it removed, and when I have radiotherapy, this will leave me in the same position as a mastectomy. It's to reduce chances in my other breast, although arguably without tamoxifen I stand as much chance as the next women in getting it (just because I've had it in one breast doesn't mean I'd have it in the other).
