Mastectomy on Monday with reconstruction

Hey try not to stress - it will be ok. I had a mastectomy with a diep flap reconstruction 5 weeks ago and am pretty much back to normal. Still a little tender & tummy still a bit tight but recovering well. Happy to answer any questions you have if I can!  

Hi.  You'll be fine.  I had mine in Feb and I was walking to the shop after day 2.  I had my drains in for about a week so advice is take an over the shoulder shopping bag just in case.   Worst you will find is the hospital food 

One foot in front of the other. The staff will know you are worried and scared - who wouldn't be?  All will be well.

I’m a week behind you and feel exactly the same way. Hope it goes well. What sort of reconstruction are you having?

Hospital food will surely make you feel worse!!  No nutrition in that over cooked, overdone awful stuff they call food!!  Good to get home and eat real food.

I am having implant

Hi, sorry to hear you are feeling so worried, it's perfectly normal, I was the same, anxious & scared. I tried to view it as a massive step forward in getting to a place of being cancer free.

I had immediate implant reconstruction, i will be honest and say it does feel a little strange for a while, I think my brain had to accept that it was part of my body, if that makes sense. Pace yourself, you will get through it !

I had mastectomy and implant reconstruction on Wednesday. Much better after than I had been expecting. Home with a drain which is uncomfortable rather than painful. Armpit slightly sore from sentinel node biopsy. Advice......take the drugs, do your exercises, one day at a time. Good luck. X

That’s great that it all went well. When do you think the drains will come out. I’m having a double mastectomy and expander implants this time next week and I can’t wait to get it done but am terrified at the same time! Good luck with the rest of your recovery x
