Hi out there.
Anyone in the same boat as me?on
I started Tamoxifen just under a year ago after being diagnosed and treated for bilateral breast cancer.
The problem I am facing has been constant bladder infections which seem to have sorted themselves out through my gynecologist recommending me to take Hiprex twice a day. Now I am suffering from constant thrush /av symptoms. It is driving me crazy. I have just been prescribed Itraconazole to take over a month. Is anyone else on this and if so how did they find it?
Most importantly did it work?
Thanks
Penelope
Hi PenelopeJ57 I am sorry but I don't have this experience personally but I noticed your post hasn't had any replies and as the site is busy today, it's slipped down a few pages. My answer will pop it back to the top and hopefully someone with the right experience will be along soon. Best wishes
I take hiprex for a chronic UTI that I developed a few years before I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I do find it causes more bouts of thrush so I tend to use Boric Acid suppositories. I get mine here https://www.siaderma.co.uk/boric-acid-suppositories but you can pick them up in a lot of places. I find this more effective than oral medications (and they interact with the antidepressants that I am on). Worth a go?
Hi tumblebee, are the UTI’s caused by Ecoli or did they tell you the offending organism? They are a pain.

Hopeful Barb I go to a cUTI clinic in London because mine are embedded, but they have found Klebiella, Enterococcus and E-coli in my urine in the past. I'm on long-term antibiotics along with the hipprex. I have basically had a constant UTI since Dec 2018, but the treatment I receive at the clinic has helped hugely. This is the clinic: https://www.whittington.nhs.uk/default.asp?c=42456
My goodness you have a busy urinary tract. Have you ever heard of D-mannose powder? I have sent you a link and although it is long to read very informative. Hope it helps and you can share with your specialist if it pertains to your situation. Take care of yourself.

My daughter recommended Optibac for Women that helps keep the UTI’s at bay. It worked for me but I wasn’t as badly affected as you. So miserable for you to cope with all this.

Thank you for the advice on the suppositories . Hiprex has stopped the constant cycle of UTI and the 4 week treatment of Itraconazole has worked in the thrush . My dilemma is what if the thrush comes back again ?
So your advice on Boric acid is well timed . I am also on amitriptyline for nerve damage . Do you think that will be ok ?
