After 3 lots of surgery for dcis it was found the margins weren't clear so next course of treatment is mastectomy. Not sure if chemo or radiotherapy until after lymph node results come back.

I got t my date for mastectomy in 2 weeks. Not at my local hospital so have to travel. My worry is I have a disabled husband so need to put things in place fir him. His family is a waste of space.  Its been me and my daughters being primary carers for him for the last 10 years. He had 2 strokes  the second one affected him phsyand mentally. What help xan I get whilst recovering from surgery? Both daughters work full time so they are limited to what they can help with. I am batch cooking and freezing food for when I get home. Where can I find more help. Admission 26th September surgery  27th 2 to 5 days in patient.

  • Glad you've got a date  but sorry it sounds like you have so much to sort out before then. Do you have a local carer's centre? They may be able to advise you about arranging emergency care for your husband.  Or would social services be able to help? Hope you get the help you both need, xx

  • Wow your plate is really full.  You are doing all you can with batch cooking etc.  So sorry about your husband’s disabilities too.  Is there a social service agency that can help you,  hospitals usually have them.  Possibly Macmillan would know of some resources too.  Here in the US we have the American Cancer Society and they have resources.  I wish you good luck to find some help as you need to rest up and take it easy.
If the results are DCIS you will not need chemo as not given for that.  Don’t know about radiation.  There are always so many things that change during treatment.  So hard to plan.

Thinking good positive thoughts your way.
