Itching after mastectomy

Hi everyone.

Just wondering if anyone else has suffered with itching after mastectomy? I had my op 2 weeks ago and have recovered really well in all other respects apart from in the last few days suddenly becoming hypersensitive to anything even clothes touching my skin. Any touch sets off unbearable itching. I understand it's the nerves repairing themselves. To anyone who has experienced this - how long did it last and did you find anything that helped? I've had to stuff a cushion up my top to hold the material away from my chest. It's not a good look

Hi V,

I had my mastectomy end of April then 2nd op end of May. I'm still quite sensitive to clothes touching my skin and itchy as well, especially today! I would be interested to know if anything helps as well!

Oh dear, that's a very long time to suffer with it Lindsgab! Let's hope someone can help!

Hi Veep and Lindsgab

when it feels like this have you tried putting a dressing over it? Just until the itching and irritation settle? Then take it off again and let the air at it?

I’m having my mastectomy on the 16th September, look on flatfriends.org.uk they’ve got lots of good advice.
