I was peri menopausal when I started chemo and oncologist said chemo likely to put me into full menopause. I have finished chemo and started taking tamoxifen about 4 weeks ago. I have now developed light fluffy hair on the side of my face. Has anyone else had this? Is it likely the menopause or tamoxifen.

  • Hi

I had a total hysterectomy 2 years ago which resulted in me going straight into the menopause. This year I have noticed that I have baby fluff on the side of my face which I assumed was hormone (or lack of) related.

  • Dermaplanes are really good for this- you can get packs of 10 from asos or boots etc quite cheaply.

  • hello there, when my hair started to grow back after chemo I also got light fluffly hair on my face, as well as thicker, darker hair on my arms and legs (and head). I had a brief menopausal stage during chemo but I'm back to pre-menopausal now, and I'm on tamoxifen. The fluffy hair only lasted a few weeks and now (months later) all of my hair is back to normal.

  • Thanks for your replies. I'm hoping it might settle down and reduce itself otherwise I'll have a go at dermaplaning.

  • Hi , I’m on Anastrozole and blame it for my furry face! I assume it’s from the (hopefully) very low oestrogen levels. Just another bother! I just leave it as I’d be worried that if I remove it, it might come back coarser whereas atm it’s fine and, like you’ve said, fluffy. Without my glasses on it’s not too noticeable so i try not to look too closely! My menopausal ship sailed many years ago so I can’t blame that….

  • Hi, I am on Tamoxifen for 4 months and in menopause after chemo-menopausa.

When I started with Tamoxifen very soon I got fluffy hair on the side of my face. Same as you described.

It is a good sign (medicine is working), but the face hair is longer so I think I should do something about it.

I wonder what kind of hair will grow after epilation/depilation, anyone with same experiance?

  • Hi Ozi I'm pleased to say mine has gone away by itself. It took about 3 months and back to  normal.Slight smile
