My friend finished her chemo on 29th June.  She managed to retain about 50% of her hair through cold capping and her new hair is growing through..  She had a lumpectomy at the beginning of this month and radiotherapy will happen in about 4 weeks time.  She desperately wants to colour her hair but realises now is too soon and obviously doesn't want to risk damaging the new emerging hair.  She can't seem to get any conclusive guidance as to when she can safely colour her hair again.  Can anybody help please?  Thanking you in anticipation.

  • Hi , I found the Cancer Hair Care charity webpage to be a really useful source of information. They have a section dedicated to hair colouring before, during and after chemo and colouring new hair growth.

I finished chemo in July last year and also used the cold cap with some success. Reckon I also about 50-60%. I had mine coloured again in February this year, all went well.  I’ve had it done a couple of times more since then and have been very happy.

    Hope this helps x

NBI thank you so much.  I will pass the information on and have a look at the link you sent.  Stay well. x
