Hi
I'm due to start radiotherapy soon can anyone give me some advice? Does it make you as tired as chemo? Any thoughts welcome.
Cheers

Hi Carolyn 321
I finished x15 sessions of radiotherapy in June. Everyone is different and reacts differently. I had had surgery then chemo before this and I can say it is nothing like chemo.
I drove myself there and back and the effects didn't come till a couple of weeks after it finished. I have very fair skin and was really worried my skin would break down. A tip is to moisturise a couple of times a day and drink plenty of water.
Once finished I got a couple of very sore places under my collar bone and my back as apparently it leaves you through your back. They gave me some hydrocortisone cream which helped. A bit of underarm stiffness which massage helps and very tired by the end of the day which lasted about 4 weeks once done but very liveable with.
You can do this not as bad as I found chemo. Good luck x
Hi Carolyn, my situation was different as I did not need chemo. Had lumpectomy both breasts and radiation to both breasts. I had 3 weeks radiation on both breasts and then 5 boosts radiation on the right one. I felt well and had a little fatigue only occasionally and didn’t need to change routine etc.
Everyone is different and some have more fatigue than others. Just go with what your body needs and it should work itself out.
Take care of yourself.

Hi Carolyn,
I had radiotherapy recently, finished 15th July
not too bad whilst having it or for the first week after finishing but the last 10 days i have been very fatigued. Finding that i have a cery tired day, then sn ok day.
i got a small rash on the breast that i had treatment on, very itchy but the moisturiser helps to cool it down.
other than that its fine. The hormone therspy i sm on is caysing me more side effects snd impacting me more.
i wish you well
moidturise before you start, during treatmrnt and afterwards
drink lots if water and you should be fine
I'm due to start 15 sessions on 16th August, I have the same concerns, but we are all different. been told to moisturise as much as possible and may well be tired for a few weeks after. I didn't get very tired on chemo, think I was more wide awake and worrying most of the time!!
Thank you everyone for your advice and support.
