I have recently been diagnosed with grade 3 triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma which has spread to my lymph nodes. I have been booked in to have a ct scan tomorrow, a bone scan on Friday and an mri on Saturday this week. Has anyone had any of these? What should I expect? I'm one of those people who is scared of the unknown so trying to ease my fears by gaining knowledge
Hi Sam, well you are busy for sure and I know what you mean about the unknown and knowledge is power. The only test that I had was the MRI. They give you a due and you lie face down. Not too bad but noisy with loud banging. Sounds like you are in a construction zone. I am praying for good reports.

I had a ct scan . They just canulate you so they can put dye through. Very quick process. Don’t worry - it’ll be over before you know it.
Hi
I had a CT & bone scan after diagnosis. Bone scan is fine I just had to have the dye injected via cannula and then return after an hour of two but it's fine just need to lie down for a short while! CT scan is also fine and again just need to lie still for a while and try not to wear a bra with any wires in! You'll be fine, neither of them are even uncomfortable x
Hi Sam I had MRI which was noisy and involved laying face down with boobs through a slot. Not very comfortable but doable and I am claustrophobic. I found it better as face down so couldn't see if I was closed in. It was worth it as it showed up lymph node involvement.
I had Muga scan which is not so enclosed but you have a radio active injection first, it is a heart scan. Then a bone scan which again was a radio active injection first but moves over you but not too enclosed.
Then. CT scan with contrast which meant a dye is injected halfway through but you slide in and out of machine and have to hold breath briefly..
I was concerned but staff very helpful and kind. Try not to worry you will do ok.
I had another CT scan for my radiotherapy positioning .
Take care you will get there x
Hi @Sam2312, well I got the jackpot and had all 3 too! As others have said, the CT scan is the quickest - just a few minutes and not noisy or anything. The MRI is noisier, and for me, lasted 25 minutes. I didn’t find it scary or claustrophobic. The MRI by the way is very good at staging your diagnosis. If you have chemo first, you will have more scans so they can see the response. The bone scan took the longest time - but again not scary or claustrophobic. Your team is clearly doing their best for you, and at a very early stage. Once they have all the info they need, you will move forward and
