I had a wide localised excision on my right breast as well as a biopsy on the sentinel lymph nodes. Do to an error in the booking system the virtual review appointment was cancelled and I contacted the breast care nurses service yesterday morning. She told me that my results were discussed at the Multi-Disciplinary Team met yesterday morning and she would contact my consultant's secretary to see what was happening.

An hour later the phone rang again and it was my consultant. She told me there was no cancer in the sentinel lymph nodes but the margins weren't big enough so I'm having a second operation on Thursday 23rd June.

I'm sure I'm not alone in this but I wondered about other's experiences.

Hi there,

I had my re excision on my right breast last week. I also had same on left 8 years ago. For me the re excision wasn’t as painful as the first operation on either breast. My scar is healing really well, and except for a few paracetamol early on no pain relief needed. It’s the 2 week wait for the results that’s causing me anxiety, just hoping margins clear this time!

Great news that your lymph nodes are clear. I am sorry you need a second operation but hope that you will be clear this time. Good luck for your surgery xx

Hi , as others have said it is a much easier op. Approx 20% of ops don’t have clear margins , so it is not uncommon. I ended up with a third op and no clear margins so needed a mastectomy , but that is not at all common. The day after my third op I went to a black tie ball , I wasn’t on full form but pretty good , so hopefully you will be fine and get clear margins this time.

I had to have a second excision as the margins weren't clear on the first one. The second time it was clear.

Have you received your results yet? I had my second operation yesterday and it was as you mentioned much quicker and less debilitating than the first. I get my results on 6th July - I know what you mean about the wait.

Thanks for all your messages of support the operation went well and I get the results on 6th July. Obviously a bit anxious but everything you've all said really helps.

That’s good you’ve had your operation. I got my results and clear margins this time. I’m now waiting for a date for radiotherapy.

I was lucky as my 2 week wait was filled with my son and new fiancé coming over from Australia.
