Had surgery on Thursday , keep getting a pain in my shoulder blades , feel it's cause the way I am holding my self body posture , any one else had this if yeh how did you deal with this .

  • I’ve just had a mastectomy and axillary lymph node clearance and have had shoulder blade ache . I think it’s either the nerves that were damaged close by or the swelling from surgery itself the position of your arm during surgery , I try to Massage it do

    my excercises or pain killers

  • Hi Jue22 I had my op a few weeks ago and I get the same pain I think it is how we are compensating .I found lying on a v shaped pillow helped and supporting my arm on my side were I had masectomy also helped. It can also be tension and stress you have just had an operation. I have also taken  pain relief which does help a little.  It will improve as time goes on. I wish you well x

  • Hi

i had op 4 weeks ago. I had a ridge where they took node out. Iain in upper arm and shoulder blade. Like a burning sensation as if I’d been dragged on gravel. Especially when I touched it. I had full arm movement. When I queried this the BCN told me it was nerve endings repairing.  It does get better. I only feel it in certain places now and not all of the time.

  • Yes to the v shaped pillow and if u get it positioned right you can create a gap so it’s not pressing on the certain point

  • I had a lumpectomy and SLNB on my left breast and I had really uncomfortable burning stabby pains in my left shoulder blades and down the back of my arm for about 3-4 weeks after my surgery. 6 weeks on it has completely gone away. I think it was nerve pain after the surgery but once they had knitted themselves back together it was great. I remember my BCN telling me I would get pain in my breast but no-one at the Clinic mentioned this, but lots of ladies on here reported similar experiences which really put my mind at ease. I hope you heal fast and feel much better soon!
