Hello all I'm due to start my radiotherapy soon and finish 18 days before I'm due to travel abroad, has anyone else travelled abroad that soon after ?

  • People do travel after finishing RT. 18 days after finishing your skin reaction should be subsiding

you don’t say if you are going on a beach type holiday. If you are it’s factor 50 and a sun lounger in the shade all the way.Pack an old t shirt to wear in the pool or sea.

you may still feel tired so rest when you need to.

    Have a great time x

  • I have and I did exactly what said, keep the area totally out off the sun, t shirt in pool, block, etc. it was fine. Even the following few years I had to be careful with it in the sun. One year we noticed on photographs a clear straight edge and corner in my suntan but it wasn’t visible to the naked eye. But yes I went to Greece about the same number of days after. It was still sensitive and a few scabs but thankfully I wasn’t to badly affected, I’m not large chested and it does seem to make a difference anecdotally x

  • Hi

I start my radiotherapy on Monday and fly to Greece 1 week after I finish. I am going with the support of my doctors and have just been advised to be careful and cover up.

  • Hi

I start radium therapy in 2 weeks for 5 days. I’m not away until September so hopefully should be ok.  I’ve already cancelled one holiday.
Who is the best to go for insurance as I’m guessing when I cancelled last holiday my insurer paid and thinking the cost now will be ridiculous with them Stay Sure

  • I finished my radiotherapy on the 8th March and went to Egypt on the 16th, for 10 days.It was such a lovely holiday.Sat under the parasol and used factor 50, too cold to go in the pool.

It was just what I needed and I felt so relaxed.I slept loads and just recuperated.

  • I forgot to add be careful of wearing v neck T shirts and dresses in the sun.The radiotherapy treatment area comes quite high up and people can get caught out.

  • Thank you all,  it is beach holiday we are off to Turkey. I tend to wear roll neck anyway. Feel less anxious now xx

  • I went abroad about 10 days after finishing r/t.  The only risk the oncologist flagged was to keep a close eye out for an infection, which might therefore need antibiotics.  And all the sun res, advice etc.   I must admit, it was lovely to get away after all the treatment,
