Just been told I have the TP53 mutation

Hi, am sorry you have breast cancer and that they found a gene alteration that underlies it. You have had a double diagnosis to deal with and it must be hard to get your head around it all. The diagnosis of breast cancer alone is enough to send us on a very normal rollercoaster of emotions as we try to find our way through it. I used to ring the macmillan helpline just to get all my thoughts and worries out of my head. I found it really helpful - just saying it, even when there weren't any real solutions was a lifeline to me at the time.

I was wondering if you put the details of your type of cancer in to predictNHS, you could see the added benefit from radiotherapy.  Mine was not very high and it might be reassuring to you if the added benefit is lower compared with surgery and chemotherapy.

Are you going back to genetics for further genetic counselling or can you call your genetic counsellor with any further questions you have about the TP53 gene alteration and what it means for you? Genetic services are usually really helpful and I hope you find that too.
