I'm a few months out of active treatment and getting back to feeling more myself. I speak to my oncologist every month and she said I need a routine blood test. What are they checking with this?
Thanks
Blind guess -- she wants to know about red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, (are you anaemic, how is your immune system doing, are you at risk for blood clots, are you at risk for bleeding) and a few other such general things, and she may be after blood results information that would tell her for instance how your liver and kidneys are doing, similar to how they used to do it during active treatment.
Also, if you are on any ongoing medication, she may want to see what the blood test results say about the effect of that medication.
