Hi all

Had 1st of 12 weekly chemo sessions last Friday, yesterday (day 4) I started with this awful metal taste in my mouth.

I also tested positive for Covid on Sunday, so on Antiviral medication.

2nd session of chemo cancelled this week.

is this metal taste normal, as didn’t have it with EC.

thank you x

I'm sure others will be along that are currently feeling the same as you are with the taste..I don't have personal experience.

But, my best friend that had Cancer used to complain about a metalic taste in her mouth all the time!  And it was during chemo.

  • Metallic taste can happen. Its not nice, but try things like pineapple or adding something citrus, like lemon in your water to try to cut through it. xx

  • I'm on Pac/Carbo and this is very normal for me. I used to drink water all day but now have lemon squash or Elderflower drinks. Don't like the taste of veg anymore but make sure I still eat it. I seem to eat more spicy food as this makes my food more enjoyable. Boiled sweets help as well. I shall worry about my extra calories when my treatment finishes x

  • Hi,

I have this on Packitaxel and really struggle drinking water as it just tastes horrid,  Lemon is you friend

  • Sorry, posted too soon!

I have found lemon squash and these Trebor Lemon Cool drops are great for a brief respite.

    Tis x

  • Thanks Tissy33, I will give them ago x

  • I got this on PAC too, I’m afraid it is fairly common.  I got through a lot of smints! Like Ange I preferred spicy foods, and got on better with “deeper” tastes like tomato based sauces, chicken and red meats rather than carbs or fish or creamy type sauces.  You need to experiment but also keep an eye on getting enough fluid and veg and calories even if it’s a bit of a struggle at times.

On the plus side, the joy of tasting things properly after chemo was immense, I had some of the best tasting meals of my life GrinningYum.  So something to look forward to.
