Two weeks after finishing radiotherapy I developed radiation burns ( I thought I’d got away with it). They’re weeping but not infected, I’m wondering how long before they heal and if anyone has any tips for helping the process along, I’m using Polymem atm.

  • I am sorry this has happened to you. Using aloe vera can help - I have heard of some even buying a plant and snapping the leaves to apply the "juice" direct from the plant but have not tried myself. Moisturise your skin gently - no scent, no sulphates helps - something like aveeno is good. Pat, don't rub dry, use tepid not hot water to clean. if showering, just a gentle flow of water is better rather than a power shower. Have you contacted your radiotherapy team to ask for advice/ treatment - they have special gels for damaged skin. The good news is that your immediate radiotherapy side effects have peaked, so its onwards and upwards from here and you should see the healing process happening now x

Thank you for your advice, I've just joined the community and it's nice to read about other people's experiences, especially when you feel a bit anxious.
