Hii

After 2 cycles of EC, my chemo is getting changed. I have now to get 5 cycles every 3 weeks of Docetaxel and Carboplatin, along with trastuzumab. Has anyone had this combination?
I think I’m just looking for a bit reassurance. After getting my head round the original plan, I’m having a little wobble with the latest changes.  I was originally scheduled for 4 cycles EC every 2 weeks, followed by 3 cycles of Docetaxel every 3 weeks, with the trastuzumab starting along side the Docetaxel.

lt has already been a great help reading the posts and information given on here,

Thank you.x

  • Has your oncologist explained the reason for the change? This could be specific to you, based on your response to treatment so far, or to an overall change in the protocols as they apply to your case. A clear explanation of the reasons for the change and what they are hoping to achieve by it could go a long way towards coming out of the wobble; perhaps your nurse could explain it or pass the query to your oncologist?

  • Hi GreyCats, thank you. Yes, it is because the results from my heart scans are too low, and I know the trastuzumab can also affect the heart, so they are being extra cautious. I’m 51, reasonably fit, size 10/12, healthy diet etc and had no reason to think there could be anything wrong with my heart, so that’s another shock in its self. From what my oncologist has said nothing to worry about with the heart as it is probably normal for me. So why then change the chemo, is the new regime going to be as effective… I would think there must be others who do have heart conditions, high blood pressure etc, so I guess I’m just curious to know I’m not alone and to know more about what to expect with the new regime.x
