Diagnosed with E positive BC on 7/4 after biopsy taken on 30/3. Was told on the 7th April - they were waiting on the HER result (would be another week) oh and I'd need a CT scan - despite this follow up was booked for 21/4/22. Anyhow - no contact regarding CT scan so called on 14/4 to be told it would unlikely happen before the 21/4 as urgent CT scan in my area is a 3 week wait. However the BCN I spoke with said she would call me on the following Tuesday to confirm if my appointment for 21/4 would go ahead. No call received on that Tuesday - I chased it on the Wednesday and was told due to my surgeon being off and no CT scan done the 21/4 appointment would be cancelled - but I was rebooked in for 28/4. Anyway - got home from a cheeky weekend in West Wales to a letter saying CT scan booked for 6pm on 28/4 - my appointment with the surgeon was booked for 30. Rang to confirm appointment with Surgeon still going ahead was told yes. Got a call from BCN about 4 o'clock today - appointment with Surgeon for tomorrow cancelled as they didn't have enough tissue from the biopsy to complete HER check - the HER check that takes 2 weeks to report back apparently. Feel like the report has sat on someones' desk for a fortnight and they had a quick look today ahead of MDT and saw the results were inconclusive. Anyway - further biopsy booked for 4/5 ( my birthday - what a treat!) and when i said I wasnt happy as I'd be waiting 2 weeks for that to come back - and I was told they could see me the next day in clinic - when I asked would you be able to give me my treatment plan - was told no - but they could tell me my options - I dont want options - just want to be told its Chemo - Surgery - Radio or Surgery - Chemo - Radio (was told if HER positive that given the size of the lump- they would start with Chemo). Was quite forthright and told BCN I would not be attending any appointments that didn't move my case forward. Live in Wales - suppose to start treatment within 62 days of GP referral or 21 days of treatment plan being agreed. Cant see the target being hit in my case to be honest.
Hi, so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and experience so far.
I understand what you are going through:
I had biopsy on 18/3 with breast cancer diagnosis appointment 1/4. I then had an outline plan which started with an MRI on 7/4. Unfortunately the MRI found 3 more areas that need investigating and so I was given an appointment for this Friday. Yesterday I was called to say that this has been cancelled and I now have an appointment on 4/5. I called today to say that I was available for any no-notice appointment but was told that they have cancelled all appointments until 4/5.
Following my next appointment I may have to have an MRI guided biopsy which I guess will be a couple of weeks later and then will have to wait 2 weeks for results. This potentially takes me to the beginning of June before my treatment plan is clear.
It is so painfully, stressfully, frustratingly excruciating isn't it? When I walked into my first appointment it felt like I was on a speeding conveyor belt that I couldn't get of but now that belt has juddered to a halt, I am still on it and there is nothing I can do to speed it up again.
I hope that your appointment on the 4th (happy birthday!) is not too stressful and that your conveyor belt gets moving.
Take care
Hi LovetoWalk, the surgeon rang today and explained that so far the tests to see if HER receptive have been inconclusive so more tissue needed to be sent for a FISH test - which is more in depth apparently Reason for additional biopsy is to 1) pre-empt the Lab asking for more tissue to test and 2) so the hospital have some tissue for comparisons to be completed at some point down the line Apparently I have been discussed at MDT with the surgeon advocating for the surgery - but Oncology team want HER result as if they operate and it comes back as HER positive they wont be able to offer a certain chemo combination that they can offer if surgery has not been done. Hoping I hear something soon. x
That's really tough, but glad they called today, at least you now know why there is a delay.
Fingers crossed for next appointment
thanks wishing you all the best moving forward on your journey x
