It depends on the chemo. I had 16mg dexamethasone for 3 days on docetaxel which is a bog dose. I asked for a reducing dose tapered for a few days so as not to come off it suddenly. Xx
I just had 8mg a day for three days with EC (4 mg twice daily), and none with weekly paclitaxel other than the IV ones they give before infusion. I had no major steroid side effects, a bit of facial flushing after taking them, some sleep issues (taking doses at 8am and 1pm rather than in the evening helped with that), and a bit of a flat down feeling for a day when they stopped, but you know that’s coming so can prepare for it.
Hi, the main side effect is that it made me feel more energetic than I was and it disturbs sleep. Take rest whenever your body tells you to, even if it means sleeping at odd times of day. Although it can cause an increase in appetite, that was not something that happened to me. I think it is to reduce sickness or to lower the chance of a reaction to the chemo drug, depending on which chemo you are having at the time.
