    Hi!

I started Tamoxifen about 4 weeks after last Chemo session.

I was advised to wait 4 weeks, to allow some of the Chemo side effects to improve first.

I was also advised not to leave it much longer than the 4 weeks! This was to ensure that I was still having some 'treatment' before the start of Radiotherapy.

    What are your thoughts? x

  • Hi, I want to start Tamoxoifen ASAP but oncogist has said 6 weeks after radiotherapy whiich will be end of June x

The side effects from Tamoxifen can be increased due to Radiotherapy, which is why some Oncologists suggest starting after Radiotherapy.

The gap between Chemo and Radiotherapy is a key factor. I will be 11 weeks PFC when I start my Radiotherapy. This is due to a back log! The Oncologist deemed this time period as too long to be without treatment. If the timescale had been shorter, he would have suggested starting Tamoxifen after Radiotherapy. x

  • Hi Mel, I was told to start tamoxifen on the monday after I finished radiotherapy (on a friday). I don't know why it couldnt start as soon as chemo finished, as it was 5 weeks or so to radiotherapy and then 3 weeks after that before tamoxifen starts. I just trusted my oncologist on this one and have followed instructions
