Hi

I finished chemo 17th feb after 5 months and had a lumpectomy 3 weeks ago I’m loosing my hair more now than ever I wore the cold cap which was a godsend and I suppose I’m lucky as I had really thick hair my hair that is left is so thin but still got a fair amount but it’s the falling out that is worrying me. Has anyone else experienced this. Thanks in advance

  • Hi. Not using cold cap. Had 2nd chemo Tuesday, hair was falling out last week. Had it cut short before chemo started. Hairloss is dramatic now, vacuuming so much up each day. Having it shaved tomorrow as the loss/how thin it looks now is getting to me. Hate the idea of tomorrow,  beanie bamboo cap and wig ready to take with me to hairdresser's. Jo x

  • Hi Longlegs

I finished chemo end of December and kept most of my hair after using the cold cap. I lost a lot of hair in the next 8 weeks or so. It’s now really thin but lots of new growth as well. I think it’s unfortunately quite common to loose hair afterwards but it does stop. There’s info about this on the paxman site.

Hope it stops soon for you. X

  • Hi.

I'm a couple of weeks ahead of you! I had my final Chemo on 3rd Feb. I also cold capped. I also had thick hair to start, and although I lost alot of hair throughout Chemo, I was lucky enough to shed evenly! The only bald patches were above the ears!

I have continued to shed quite badly since Chemo finished, but there is evidence of slight regrowth too! Having said that, I think this week is the first week that shedding has lessened - so I'm hopeful that this is a turning point! (9 weeks PFC)

So, I hope this may be the case over the next couple of weeks for you too!

  • Hi

i had exactly same thing.  Lost some steadily throughout chemo and cold capping but only had three bald areas, above ears and bottom of the cap where tube went in.

Finished at end January last year and by end of March had lost an awful lot more.  My fringe was really thin! But it was also already growing back in so in August I finally gave in and got my shoulder length hair cut short to balance out the new growth.

is fairly slow growing but very thick and also quite curly. Is now about 10 cm long.

I am very soon going to get another trim to take some of the frizzy ends away.  It’s hard as I don’t want to cut any of it off, but will have to, to make it look better.

it takes time but hopefully we will get there in the end.

    keep positive x

  • I also had my head shaved (at my partner's barbers!) because fishing all the hair out of the shower drain every day was unbearable.  It was the end of April last year and the weather was very mild and I decided to stride out of the barber shop without any head covering.  I did have an NHS wig but I only wore it twice because it was so hot last summer that it was unbearable.  I wore sunhats if out in the daytime to protect my head but otherwise went bare headed unless we were out with other people who might have felt uncomfortable.  I know not everyone has the confidence that I found, but keeping your head bare as much as possible will help with regrowth.

  • Hi there.  I'm about to start TPH Docetaxel -Pertuzumab -Trastuzumab in the next couple of weeks.  It's really helpful to see your experiences. I'm very interested in trying the cold cap but will just hope for the best.  I have thick hair but treatment is going to be "very aggressive" as I'm stage 4 so don't know if I will get to keep any hair.

  • Just back from hairdressers. She's not quite shaved it, left me a little bit. Travelled back in my wig, which she kindly chopped into a little to reduce the bulkiness. Does look better now  had a walk round the block in my wig. Took it off. Big reveal for my hubby. Don't think I'll be brave enough to venture out as,I look now, without something on my head. Jo x

  • Hi yes I’ve got regrowth we’re the cold cap didn’t cover above my ears and it’s starting to grow back but at the same time falling out. Thanks for reply x

  • hi thanks for reply your very brave my hair was and is the thing I was most worried about I know that sounds silly but I didn’t tell a lot of people that I had cancer and I didn’t want people to say what’s wrong with you. Good luck to you x
