I have my 3rd and final ec next week and have not been too bad so far, I felt worse after my second than first and expect my 3rd to be worse again. So far although I have felt sick I have not been physically sick (yet) I am very grateful of the break in between. I am now worrying about moving on to 9 weeks of paclitaxel as no break and worry I going to be really ill for 9 weeks. Any thoughts experience on this I know we all different but does anybody get through without too much feeling ill

  • Hi

I had four sessions of EC (given every 3 weeks) then four sessions of paclitaxel, given fortnightly.  As you say, we are all different.  But personally I found paclitaxel much easier than EC.  There was no nausea or sickness with paclitaxel, and no indigestion.   In fact I woke up the morning after my first paclitaxel and couldn’t believe how completely normal I felt.  Apparently weekly paclitaxel is even easier to tolerate than fortnightly, because each dose is lower.

I did feel a little bit tired and achy around day 5 of each paclitaxel cycle, and I did suffer from a couple of days constipation with both drugs.  But overall I felt pretty good throughout my paclitaxel cycles and had plenty of energy.  Fingers crossed you have an equally positive experience!  xx

  • I had paclitaxel 2 weekly and I preferred it to EC in that my mind was less foggy. I didn't feel ill on paclitaxel. I had some joint and muscle aches. I wore ice gloves and socks to protect my nails and to help prevent any nerve issues in my fingers. It was much better than I had imagined.

  • Thanks for replying it gives hope that I may also find paxlitaxol realities ok anticipation iand uncertainty is prob worst part of all this

  • Thanks for replying it gives hope I won't be too ill. I have been wearing nail varnish as was this helps nails ( was told black seem be best for some reason ) I have not heard of ice gloves before though, where they from?

  • I ordered ice gloves and socks from amazon. The ice packs last one hour so I bought enough to last for the 3 hour infusion every two weeks. If you are on weekly treatment it is only one hour so no spare ice packs needed.
