Hi, I am due to have surgery next month - unfortunately I have to have a mysectomy & all lymph nodes removed - I have opted to have recon same time - but now not sure !
Has anyone had a LD (back flap) recon ?
Thanks
SW
Hi Louisejohn
Do you have to have a mastectomy ?
SW
Do you know if you need radiotherapy too? Did your surgeon explain pros and cons of doing it now or later? I had a simple mastectomy to begin with and have been using a prosthesis in my bra for now. I knew I'd need radiotherapy so decided to wait to reconstruct later. The prosthesis is very realistic in a bra and you wouldn't know.
It is such a big decision. Some women prefer to have a cleavage/ reconstructed breast straight away - it just wasn't something that worried me immediately but I would like to reconstruct in the end. We are all so different in what we want and what we can live with. I hope you can find the answers you need.
Hi, yes I will need radiotherapy - consultant went through the 3 options of reconstruction - the implants are not good if you need radiotherapy!!
Hi and no I been give 4 options and after serious thinking over the last 2 weeks I’ve decided on Mastectomy but definitely not been an easy decision xx
I too have to make a decision about what I want to do and my surgeon is calling me in the 6th april to chat about my decision but I really don’t know what to do , I will need radiotherapy after so that kinda chucks the implant choice out the window so feel I have no choice but to have the mastectomy and then reconstruction a year or so down the line they said up to 2 years after . I’m interested to know peoples opinions on this subject too such a big decision for us to make especially when you don’t even want to make this kind of decision .
Yes, it is a hard decision about recon - I am not happy about mastectomy - but have not choice !
Saw consultant last week - I still could not come to a decision - but was told I can let him know on the morning of surgery if I want recon
Hi,
I had bilateral mastectomy with node clearance on 16th march. I decided to delayed reconstruction as I didn’t want to prolong the surgery and wasn’t sure if I need radiotherapy, which I need for chest wall after all, so I am glad I stick with just mastectomy for now, as I am opting for implants as i am very skinny, so there is no other option.
I was 32DD, 2 weeks post of I am about 32B (I know it will go), so about a year till reconstruction…
Good luck with your surgery and decision, whatever you decide, it’s correct decision.
Lucie
