Fear over high lymph node involvement

Hi. I had a double mastectomy and full node clearance on one side (one side was cancerous, with a large tumour the other side was an elective mastectomy), I had chemo first. They found cancer in 22 out of 25 nodes and rushed me in for a CT scan the next day. I got the results two days later and thankfully there is still no sigh of spread but I’m high risk of recurrence and scared of recurrence.

I’d really appreciate any reassurance anyone in this lovely forum either where there was a lot of lymph node involvement and you’ve had no signs of spread or where it did spread and it wasn’t quite as bad as you first thought.

I am going to have 3 monthly ct scans for the foreseeable future.

Thanks in advance x

  • Hi rach

If you scroll down to a thread called lympho-vascular invasion, a few ladies replied to me only today regarding this issue and they had high node involvement. Most are 3/4 years clear now with no sign of disease. Xx

  • Thanks so much Hel39! I was searching for ages for something reassuring and couldn’t find anything recent x

  • Hi Rach - just wanted to say hello - currently waiting to go in for my CT scan and am trying to keep the fear at bay. I had 10/18 nodes with cancer in and I keep imagining the worst so it’s reassuring to hear you got an all clear from your scan. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that the rest of your treatment goes well xx

  • Good luck. Let us know how you get on. Xx

  •  Thanks GeordieGirl! Yes, I had an all clear 6 months ago (pre chemo) then another all Clear CT a week ago.

I have found quite a few old forum threads (for different cancer sites too) where people relay that there was a comparable or higher lymph node involvement than mine followed by years of it not spreading x

  • Yes, please let us know how you get on. Crossing my fingers for you x

  • Yes. I also hojacked a thread on cancer research where people were asking about side effects of coming off tamoxifen after ten years- I asked if any had started out as node positive grade three and got a couple of replies advising that they had been abs were now 10 and 13 years clear. X

  • Hi @rach23 and  just wanted to add that another lady with ten positive nodes has just replied to me on cancer research chat to say she had grade 3, 10 positive nodes and joined the aspirin trial as she gets quite a lot of extra scans and checks that way. It’s a large, ongoing phase 3 trial.

I don’t know how the trial is going in terms of results but it might be worth asking if you can join for the extra scans alone.

(she is five years clear in October also) :)

    xx

  • Hiya,

I had 14 out of 18 nodes involved with a 53mm tumour. I had my mx 5 years ago last November, chemo, radio and ovaries out.  Coming up to nearly 5 years on letrozole with another 5 more to go.

And (touch wood), I am doing well. I do feel that I get tired more easily now, but that might just be age related!!

    Cwtches,

    Gay xxx
