Hi, I had a mammoplasty 2 days ago now and 3 lymph glands removed all on my right side due to a dcis 4.25 cm x2.4 cm. It is so painful. I’m taking paracetamol every 4 hours but every movement  is so painful. Does anyone have any comfort tips? I have 3 front fastening post op bras but I’m not sure if they will help right now xx

love and hugs to you all going through various stages xx

  • Hi Sc68

If you are normally OK on ibuprophen you could take them alongside the paracetamol. They are metabolised and excreted in a different way. I have found both together much better that either one on its own at times when I had severe pain. Don't take more than the recommended number per day for each. If in doubt seek medical help from GP or BC Nurse.

    Wishing you all the best

  • Hi,

After my lumpectomy I wasn't able to wear my post surgery bras at all, because even though they are very soft material I found the pressure under the arm area too much. Instead I wore a halter neck bra without wires. The strap sits very low on the back below any swelling. I also used bra extenders so it wouldn't be too tight. The bra brand I got is Gilly Hicks. I was able to wear post surgery bras about 5 weeks after surgery.

Hope that helps and you feel better soon xx

  • Hi there

I had a lumpectomy about 5 weeks ago I think.    It was  painful at first because I had a really bad infection.    After a week in hospital I had a check up and they said it was healing OK...even though it collects 'liquid'.   Some removed with syringes.    So even now after all these weeks  it's still painful...I was so worried on Monday I asked to see them.   They said it's fine, pain is part of the healing process .   So long as it doesn't feel hot to the touch and my temp is normal all is well.      I bought  a couple of bras from m and s one is really quite hard a proper sports bra and it's a bit much for a poorly sensitive breast.   Another is softer but leaves indentations so I'm not happy wearing it all the  time.   I like to wear different bras with different levels of support I think I just feel better and more comfortable with that.   I take paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain.  Good luck .

  • Oh I forgot to say a couple of nights I  just went to bed , no bra and hugged a folded towel to me for support, that felt very nice.

    Hi Wally dug,

thanks for your reply Two hearts I have been given some codeine to take with the paracetamol which takes the edge off the pain. It’s under the breast that hurts the most xx

B1975, thanks for your comments. I tried one of my very soft post surgery bras yesterday and I really couldn’t tolerate it. Soft silky night slips are as good as I get right now but I had the most aSmileyzing gentle shower yesterday Smiley

It’s just time and patience I think but I will take any tips any one has Two hearts xxx

  • Hi, the codeine definitely will help with pain, but has anyone checked your wounds?  Under the breast might suggest you have a haematoma or seroma which needs drained.  I found a heart shaped pillow really helped to take the pressure off, especially at night.  Then I had new bruising come out after 2 weeks and my surgeon drained a haematoma when I went to see her for my results.  Suggest you contact your BCN tomorrow and see what they recommend.
