Had my first Chemo a week ago and now I am getting pain which I think is indigestion. Gaviscon tablets used to work before cancer but don't seem as effective now. Any suggestions please?

  • I would call you chemo unit or chemo nurses and take advice as to the underlying cause of the pain. It may well be indigestion due to the chemo and need some different medication but I would take their advice now rather than suffer till your next chemo

  • Hi, I had really bad indigestion / heartburn after my first chemo, so much so, I called the on call GP at the weekend. I was prescribed Omeprazole, which I actually continue to take many months on.  Please don't suffer in silence as your medical team can certainly help figure out how to help you manage this side effect. Best of luck

  • Yes definitely omeprazole, I used double the dose a few times, one in the morning and one at lunch, really helped x

  • Hi there. Yes I agree about the omeprazole. It was the nurses in the chemo suite who said to get some and take everyday throughout chemo, which I did. Some days I doubled up and took a second one if needed.
