Hi all, i had CT scan last week now they have rung to say the consultants wants an urgent PET scan. Is this the norm? Are they looking to see if it’s else where? Feeling worried now I see the oncologist next week too for the first time.
I had a CT and an MRI, the way I understand it is the PET scan is the daddy of all scans, it gives a very detailed picture of what is going on in your body. I don’t know if it’s standard in your area because different trusts seem to have different protocols, you can be pretty happy that after a PET, they’ll have a very good understanding of what is going on. I know it’s incredibly hard not to think the worst but try and think it is just another diagnostic tool that will help your oncologist tailor your treatment. You can make yourself so poorly thinking of ‘what ifs’ all the very best xxx
Thank you for your reply the wait is driving me nuts.
The waiting is absolutely the worst bit, not knowing the full diagnosis and what’s coming. At least once you know, you get the shock/bewilderment phase then you kind of go into a planning/coping phase, let’s face it, the whole thing can be pretty traumatic and far from anyones norm xx
Thank you for your reply I know it’s good to have every bit of info to determine the best plan of treatment. I guess things just aren’t moving as fast as I would like, having the initial tests to then mri the ct and now this. X
The waiting argh !
the pet scan as Anna has said will give them everything they need but I think different areas do things differently !
I hope they’ll have all the results together by next week and you can get on with treatment ( I’m repeating myself from other post )
love and hugs
L xx
Hi pocket rocket
I have been diagnosed 2 weeks ago with BC and because the biopsy tested positive for Her2 and there was lymph node involvement, they ordered a pet scan. The results revealed that the cancer had spread to my liver. I do hope your news is better than mine.
wishing you all the best because like you the waiting was the worst part. X
Sam
Hi,
like you I was diagnosed with BC just over 2 weeks ago. Have 5.5cm tumor ER+ HER2- stage 3 due to size
I had mammogram, ultrasound and MRI and then they sent me to London for urgent PET scan the next day. Like you I was terrified as thought this must be because they had found something very worrying.
The PET scan is the daddy of all scans and gives them a clear picture if it has spread elsewhere. For me the scan showed no spread at all not even to my lymph nodes. So in the end it has given me more peace of mind as I now know my whole body has been totally looked at.
I had my first chemo on Wednesday so my route to recovery is now underway.
The waiting is total torture . Just be reassured that the scans they do are are good thing as they need a full picture of what is going on so they can treat you . I too had CT , scans MRI scans and it wa all very worrying as I was initially told my cancer was DCIS and caught early . Without the CT scans and MRI I would not have been given the right treatment for what turned out to be an aggressive TNBC stage 3 , grade 3 . My latest CT has revealed an abscess on my liver so I have a bit more waiting to see if this is anything to worry about . Stay strong whatever is found they will be able to treat you xxx
Hi Sam,
thanks for replying, so sorry to hear the news that the cancer has spread but I hope it is early enough for the treatment to be effective.
I too am HER2 positive also ER and PR positive also Pagets of the nipple which is HER2 + but ER and PR neg.
your right the waiting for all the different tests then the waiting for the results is the worst.
I really wish you all the best and that a treatment plan is underway for you.
love & hugs
