Post surgery stretching

I have been very diligent and kept up my recommended stretches three times a day since my mastectomy.  Six weeks on I'm still doing them. Should I be?  I have full movement and no issues.  I can't remember how long you are meant to keep doing them and I can't see the answer online.  I would love to stop doing them if it won't give me any problems.  Can anyone remember how long it was recommended they keep them up?

  • I am 6 months on from my surgery and thought I'd try the exercises the other day just to see how easy they felt.  I was quite surprised when I wasn't quite as flexible as I had been and felt some slight discomfort on my surgery side compared to the other.  I would therefore say even when you stop the exercises, it's worth returning to them every now and then to see how things feel and to maintain your flexibility and range of movement.

  • I think it's an individual thing, best to contact the breast care nurses and ask them, specific to you.

When I had my left mastectomy I was told I could stop after 2 weeks. This was back in November and I have had no issues.
