Hi all

I finished chemo end of January and am looking for some advice, my hair is still shedding but I cold capped and have luckily managed to keep a good amount, only problem is the condition and the roots! Just wondered when did people start colouring their hair and any suggestions on products. Also any recommendations for a good conditioning treatment as it's really dry. Finally when can i start using my straighteners again!!!

Thanks all xxx

  • Hi

I lost a good amount of hair during EC chemo and went grade 2.  I waited 3 months post chemo (on advice of oncologist) before colouring it-did this at the hairdressers who avoids nasty/harsh chemicals anyway.  I find that organic products are best as they’re natural, there’s lots around but personally John Masters Organics does it for me - there’s a hair mask that’s great, Jennifer Young also do some good scalp conditioning treatments which will help but you may well find that time is a good healer!

I’d go easy on the straighteners to start with to give your poor hair time to recover, mine was back to normal (condition and straightness) 6 months post end of chemo.

    Good luck.

  • Hi

I didn't have chemo, but being on ER+ medicines, my hair became a lot drier and in a poor condition.  My hairdresser recommended a Keratin shampoo and conditioner and it has made a big difference. I use OGX and TRESemme.  I alternate them per wash as for me, if I use the same one all the time, it seems to be that they don't work as well.

I can't answer your other queries, but others who've had chemo will definitely know more re colouring your hair etc.

    Best Wishes, Lesley
