Hi
i have noticed that some health trusts will fund the pncotype test, even with 1-3 positive lymph nodes. The trust I am under (tameside) will only fund if lymph node negative, which I am not. I’m happy to have the chemo in any event, just so I know I tried everything, particularly as it’s grade 3. I just wondered if anyone knew much about the science of it- can j take some comfort from the fact they will risk it with 1-3 nodes positive which might mean there are possibly not too many stray cells around? I was originally thinking my positive nodes would automatically mean there is a lot of systemic disease but have only recently realised not all trusts takes the same stance on chemo.
also, is it possible for grade 3 ever to have a low oncotype?
thanks
Good question re low oncotype result for grade 3. I am unsure as I was grade 1. I know there is a thread on here regarding free oncotype dx for node positive from Cotswold Freddie. It seems some trusts will pay and others won’t meaning it’s not fair on some having to pay. I had it but had to pay as I was told no need for chemo or at least it was my choice. I had 1 node positive and I couldn’t make that decision so the oncotype dx test helped me decide re chemo.
I was grade 3 with micromets in 2 lymph nodes and, fortunately, didn't have to pay for the Oncotype DX test as I live in an area where it's covered as standard care. The test came back as 18 which was deemed low enough for me not to be offered chemo.
Thank you- it’s good to know it can sometimes be the case. I had macro in two nodes and micro in two (so far- still awaiting pathology from full node clearance) so I am glad to be having chemo but still thinking the hormone therapy is my best bet as it is 8/8 ER and 8/8 PR. Just worry chemo is delaying the hormone treatment. the waiting for everything is so scary. X
