Hi All,
I had my first yearly mammogram following lumpectomy and I was expecting it to be painful at the time on the affected breast, which it was was, but it was fine and a I had a bit of dull pain for a day or 2.
I'm now 2 weeks on and now have a heavy feeling in my breast and also the muscles in my chest wall and back are also sore on that side.
Could that still be the mammogram? I have been a little sore at times after the lumpectomy even now, and the mammogram really pushes on that scar tissue so thinking it is a reaction to getting disturbed.
Did anyone else experience that?
Hi Beatthebreast me again, since no one else has answered I can only tell you that I am also 18months on from my lumpectomy and lymph node removal and I still cannot lie on that side in bed, the mammogram did not give me any probelm other than being painfull but I will have to be really careful that I don't knock myself as it really hurts. So you are probably correct but if you are still worried phone a BC nurse. Love from Ann
Hello. I'm upto year 6 on follow up mammograms after WLE on left. My left breast is definitely more painful during mammogram and feels a bit odd for couple of days afterwards. I found out at last mammogram that they had put about a dozen clips in there during surgery - no one had ever told me before. I think this now accounts for the random pains and ache I still get in my breast as it's a foreign object. I was told after surgery that on going pain was common due to the nerves being cut.
Personally if it was still troubling me 2 weeks on and as you are still really in healing phase I would speak to my BC nurse in case it's triggered inflammation or infection. Peace of mind may even make the pain go away. I find when I'm stressed as my annual mammogram approaches I notice every twinge, pain in my breasts then once I've had all clear it calms down again.
