Tenderness and lump in left breast

Hello

I am new to this forum and am looking for advice/guidance please in addition to what I am planning to do re a lump I have found in my left breast.

By way of background I am 49 years old (never through personal choice had children) and have recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer (endometrioid epithelial) (stage 1c2) (grade 2) and endometrial cancer (stage 1a) (grade 1) and am having chemotherapy (Carboplatin) due to the tumour rupturing during my hysterectomy (October 2021 and went into surgical menopause) where I also had my ovaries, fallopian tubes and my omentum removed.  The cancer was solely found in my right ovary and not in my lymph nodes and had not spread.

My cancers are oestrogen receptor positive and I am still waiting for the BRCA results.  Prior to my hysterectomy I had an x-ray to check for any cancer in my liver and lungs and none was found so I'm a little bit surprised that this lump in my breast was not found then (September 2021) or whilst not wishing to worry myself this may be because it's fast growing.

I check my breasts approximately once a month but yesterday I felt a tenderness in my left breast and on examination felt a lump.  As I am currently seeing a doctor at the cancer hospital as part of my current treatment and my next appointment is scheduled for 15th February I thought it best to raise it face to face then.

I intend to mention the tenderness and the lump and see what my doctor at the hospital recommends.  I presume she will undertake her own examination and perhaps recommend a CT scan?  (I am not an expert and will be guided by what she says.)

I do not intend to do any google searches and I know from what I have been through re my ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer diagnosis the waiting is the hardest part.  I know the forums on here (especially the womb cancer forum) is very supportive however this is my first post here on the breast cancer forum and I am looking for practical advice please.  I can't think of anything I can do apart from simply wait to see my doctor on Tuesday and see what she says?  I usually take a list of questions I wish to cover when I see my doctor and if these haven't been covered by her as part of our catch up I raise them with her however our catch up on Tuesday will be different due to me raising my concerns regarding the lump I have found.  I was wondering if there is anything I have missed that anybody on here thinks I should ask my doctor?

In terms of my recovery from my hysterectomy and the chemotherapy I am having that is all going extremely well.  My focus now is ensuring my lump in my breast is investigated.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you

  • Hi, sorry to hear you are already undergoing treatment. The only alternative to waiting until your next appointment I guess is to call your GP and ask for their advice. Normally they refer within 2 weeks so it may well be quicker going via your current medical team. At my referral to the breast consultant at had a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies at that first appointment. To be honest, I had not been expecting that so I had driven alone, I wish I'd had my husband with me. Hope this helps a little, wishing you luck
