Can anyone share a similar exp or add any insight please?
had lumpectomy on 2 areas in same breast 19mm.
I’ve read that most ladies have between 3 and 5 weeks RT following.
I’ve been told i am

only having a weeks treatment, every day. Obvs very delighted with the news but worried I’m not getting the best treatment now to prevent reoccurrence.

I just don’t understand

  • Hello Otismum, the length of radiotherapy needed varies and your oncologist will decide what is best for you. A trial has shown that 5 sessions of radiotherapy can be as effective as 15 sessions in preventing recurrence of early stage breast cancer so don't worry that you're not getting the best treatment (see link below to a previous thread about this topic). I had a large grade 3 ductal cancer and am only having 5 sessions, plus 5 boosters, after the lumpectomy. Your treatment will be specifically tailored to you, and although some people will have 3 or 5 weeks radiotherapy plenty of others won't so try not to worry. Hope your treatment goes well x

  • I had a lmpectomy and then a second shave operation as they found DCIS. Second op gave clear margins and cancer hadn't spread to lymph nodes. I had 11mm removed, stage 3 cancer. I have recently finished 5 days radiotherapy and am now on Anastrozole. I was told mine was early breast cancer and that the 5 day radiotherapy was the correct route for me and I have read that it is as effective as the 5 days a week for 3 weeks. I didn't have any boosters. I was relieved with the 5 days as it was 110 mile round trip, but was the same as you, was it the best treatment.

  • Hi I had only 5 days of radiotherapy the length of radio tou get is down to your oncologist I was told 5 days in early breast cancer is the same as 15 days I had lumpectomy  chemo and 18 herceptin injections everyb3 weekly   as mine was HER2+ and ER+ in DCIS stage 2 grade 1 I do believe I forget as it was last year hope that helps x

  • n May 2015 age 51 I was recalled from my first rountine screening mammogram for 2 areas of calcification (10mm & 5mm).   I was diagnosed with DCIS in the 10mm area only.  The smaller area was benign.  I had a WLE in July and 15 sessions of radiotherapy in the September.  11mm high grade DCIS was final diagnosis after surgery.   I believe they now do 5 sessions of higher grade radiotherapy.
