Sailed through days 1-5 in terms of no sickness but by day 6 just couldn’t cope with the foul taste in my mouth, and wasn’t sure if I was nauseous so took anti sickness med and have done since.
can only drink sips of water and trying ginger beer….!!
any ideas of how to stop this awful taste in my mouth not really metallic just foul?
cannot face food
Hi I am also day 8 cycle one! I can't give any magic answers but was warned about the taste changes, hasn't happened yet,...fully expecting it to. what chemo are you on I'm on 4 x EC at mo. not horrendous experience yet, but a few side effects, plus have now caught a cold. I was told not to lose weight as the chemo dosage is based on that, so keep an eye. if you find something that works would you let me know be good to have a buddy at he same stage of it all. I have bought some plastic cutlery....... havechad issues with my PICC LINE keeps bleeding and has to be redressed. pain x
Hi Amelie11 sorry to hear about problems I had ECX 6 and also suffered from taste changes the things I found helpful were mouthwash also I discovered a no added sugar cream soda & dandelion / burdock in Morrisons . ( Couldn’t drink tea it was foul made with our water could only drink next counties water lol .
Try frozen grapes to cleanse your mouth before a meal .
hope you find things you can manage soon
Hi, the foul taste is horrid, isn't it. My nurse suggested pineapple and I must admit it was ok. I also found raw veg - cucumber and carrot - were tolerable. I hope this eases soon for you
Hi so sorry you are having trouble with eating....it's dreadful ...I was so upset and distressed with it...but your taste will come back when you have finished chemo. I too suffered badly with food during my chemo......it got better towards the end of each cycle but then it was time for another one. I couldn't face any hot food at all but could tolerate ice-cream and yoghurt and I used to make egg mayonnaise sandwiches and keep them in the fridge until really cold and I could manage.....water tasted vile but put a drop of juice in as I realized I needed to drink. They do advise not to try to eat what would be your favourite foods as you may find when your treatment has finished it spoils it for you. Ginger biscuits help and fruit sweets...it's best to eat something than nothing at all.....try what you can...you will make up for it when the chemo is over....I feel so sorry for you as I know how awful it is....but take heart it's not permanent....
Sending you hugs
Ratty xxx
I'm slightly ahead of you and yes, it's awful when it happens. I'm finding that I'm getting used to it. I had a really sore mouth for a few days too although I've now been given a mouth wash which helps with that. Not looking forward to bleeding gums in next cycle. I seem to be able to eat much better now and from about day 10. Hang on in there. I think you will adapt. Xx
