Ovarian cyst

Hi. I’m sorry but this could be quite a long post! I was diagnosed with TNBC in March 2021, had a lumpectomy for 15mm tumour and 4 lymph nodes removed all of which were clear. Then had 4 EC and 4 paclitaxel followed by 10 radiotherapy. During chemo I had a abdomen and chest scan - I have always had back ache if I’ve walked a lot or sat still all day at work - that shows a 6cm pelvic cyst but oncologist said it wasn’t linked to TNBC so I was referred by my GP to gynae. Had appt there last week and they’re now investigating further! As I’m post menopause I score high and the size at 6cm is large so again I score high. I have a blood test booked for next week which will look for

CA125 and if that’s positive it’s another high score, I’m waiting for another scan to be booked to see what the cyst looks like - if it looks weird that’s another high score!! If all of these add up to over 250 it will be considered cancerous.
I’m absolutely terrified and spend most days crying - I know TNBC is nasty and has a huge risk of return but was just starting to look a little bit ahead, my hair is growing back and I started a HOPE course with Macmillan.

Now I feel as if my life has stopped again.

I know this is a huge group and we are all different but is there anyone that has experienced something similar? Thanks for reading lxx

  • Hi I am in exactly the same situation. Bear in mind this cyst also has the change of being non cancer related. Most aren’t cancer. Did they give you the genetic test for tnbc?

  • Yes they did - it came back negative which was a huge relief. I think I’m just fearing the worst, and perhaps expecting it if I’m honest, so that if it turns out to be cancer I’m already expecting it - if that makes sense? I was hoping to move on and I’m now back standing still. How are you doing? What’s your history? Lx

  • I am tnbc had iv chemo didn’t work so dmx, radiation, then oral chemo . I am now back at work and back to my normal self surprisingly no remaining side effects.
seen by gynaecologist who say cyst needs to come out but mri scan is reassuring as notes cyst doesn’t look cancer and my ca125 is normal. But even if your ca125 is raised it just means a ovarian injury ie a cyst

  • Thanks for your reply - I’ve got the blood test this week and waiting on scan appt but going to chase them. I’m glad your doing ok lxx
