Hi everyone . Just wondering if anyone has tips on how to manage chemo sickness. I was fine for the first 3 days after my 1st session but since then I’ve suffered a lot of upset tummy . I have breast cancer my appetite is good but because of the bad tummy I’m scared what I eat incase it makes me feel unwell it’s day 11 now
Hi Maggie 2. I was given some anti sickness meds. They said to take “as needed” so after my first session I waited until I was sick, and to be honest, the meds then didn’t work, it was too late. During my 2nd session I took the meds every day for the first 5-6 days and I had very little sickness so I think taking them before you need them might work. There are also different meds so they can try you on different ones. I suggest you talk to the nurses and get their advice. Good luck
Thanks so much for your reply .gives me great hope that for my next round if I manage it better fingers crossed I might not feel so sick . I was given steroids for 3 days and maxolon if needed after that
I was told to take all anti-sickness medicine exactly as prescribed even if I didn't feel sick as it is far harder to stop you vomiting once you start. I was one of the unlucky ones that was still sick - and could not stop so I had to go to hospital to get an IV of anti-sickness.
After that they added in another, even stronger, anti-sickness pill to take an hour before chemo, then again for the next 2 days, I still felt a bit sick for the first week, but I didn't vomit again. I found eating small amounts of bland food was OK. I had ginger things to eat too, though I think I ate so much that it has put me off bit now!
They may be able to give you something stronger. All the anti-sickness pills made me constipated so I had to get something for that too!!
Thanks for your help I will try to keep on top of it next round . I feel great today . Hope everything works out for u 2 . Have to enjoy the good days
