I had a lumpectomy and node removal yesterday. All went really well, currently laid in bed doped up on painkillers and resting.
However I remember something the surgeon said to me after the surgery. He said he thinks he got clean margins but took out more lymph nodes than was going to as some had stuck together.
At the time it meant nothing to me, mostly because I was still flying on morphine lol. But today my head is a bit clearer and I googled
Matted lymph nodes don't sound good, is it likely the cancer has spread?
There can be lots of reasons why your lymph nodes might have stuck together, it really isn’t just about cancer spreading, a simple infection can cause it and it’s not hugely unusual it’s just many people wouldn’t know about it. It’s really hard not to go to the worst place in your mind in our position, especially if you’ve googled don’t preempt the pathology. Keep resting and get your strength up and put your energy into dealing with what you know, all the best xx
It’s hard not to though isn’t it?? I’ve just had an axillary sweep and she said mine were very enlarged, that freaked me out too, but there are numerous reasons why they could be enlarged, I know that I had some cancerous nodes but I’ve been told I had a radiological response to chemo so I’m just waiting and seeing too xx
The first thing my breast cancer nurse said prior to any treatment was not to google anything. But like anyone if I'm told not to do it I did. I wish I hadn't I put fear into me about what could go wrong. So my affixed is to not Google anything medical but to phone your cancer nurse.
All the best.
