Hi all, newbee here
I'm TNBC , have just had 2nd of 3 Cycles of EC with last in just under 3 weeks time so far so good with no side effects, I was told at my infusion Thursday that my last 3 cycles of Paclitaxel & Carboplatin will be weekly, so 9 weeks of this medication and was wondering if anyone has had it this way how you coped, just a general what to expect, I've been cold capping and so far no hair loss although I am expecting it at some point, have my 2nd MRI next Thursday to see if the tumour ,(Horrid Henry) is shrinking, it certainly feels like it has and its not causing me any discomfort which he was prior to chemo. Many thanks xxx
I've had weekly paclitaxel - 6 out of 9 so far but have had Herceptin every third week instead of carboplatin.
Ive found the paclitaxel much easier to cope with than the EC which made me feel like a zombie for a good 7-8 days afterwards. Paclitaxel is much kinder.
My friend had the same regime as you and said that the weeks she had carboplatin were the worst weeks and she could tell she'd had an additional drug, it made her feel very tired. She was due to have 12 but only ended up having 10 as she began to develop issues with her liver.
Good luck with your treatment
Hi JonesyS,
Last year I had the same chemo regime that you are having. The Carboplatin is added on weeks 1, 4 & 7 and those are the weeks when I felt tired. The weeks when it was Paclitaxel only were fine for me, although by week 9 I think all the drugs had had a cumulative effect and I had a low white and red blood count and low potassium. So week 9 was deferred for a week.
In my case I had a full pathological response to chemo so the best possible outcome.
Wishing you all the best x
Hi , hope you don't mind but can you tell me how long before you lost hair after first chemo ? I had the first one on Wednesday
Really want to be ready to get husband to cut hair !!!:-(
Thanks Pam x
Hi so far I've lost no hair I'm day 24 after 1st Chemo EC, I'm sure it will come, have been coldcapping so hoping for minimum hair loss
I had my long hair cut to a short bob prior to treatment, as the length I'm sure would have been a little heavy for the treatment x
Hi Chelseagirl,
My hair started coming out after 2nd EC chemo. We were in lockdown at the time so no hairdressers open. I had longish hair so made a ponytail and cut off the long bit first. After a couple of days I cut off the rest and then finished off with clippers. The no hair look really didn't suit me so a wig and scarves became the norm!
Best wishes x
